DOC’s reverse osmosis system is now working
The reverse salt water osmosis system at the new adult prison in Susupe is now operational, according to Department of Corrections Commissioner Lino S. Tenorio.
Tenorio told Saipan Tribune that the new prison has its own water supply now as the saltwater osmosis system is running.
Tenorio, however, clarified that the water is not potable or drinkable.
“We were able to have water dispensers all over the facility so that the inmates and officers can drink,” the commissioner said.
The reverse osmosis system is one of the state-of-the art technologies installed at the new prison.
The system was built for the purpose of producing potable water to accommodate the operational needs at DOC.
Meanwhile, Tenorio said they are looking at several programs in place in the next few weeks at DOC.
He tapped Arnold Seman to be in charge of the inmate/officer incentive program for both inmates and Corrections officers.
At this early, he said, DOC is now looking forward to participating in the annual Flame Tree Festival.
Tenorio said DOC had participated twice in the annual Liberation Day Parade.
Last year’s Liberation Day Parade, DOC won second place in the float competition, but this year they grabbed the first place.
Tenorio said last year they had only two weeks’ notice about their participation, but this year they had two months’ preparation period.
“So now we are going on a different agenda [joining Flame Tree Festival]. We always try to promote inmates’ talent and artwork,” he said.
