Students from Tinian Junior Senior High School and other members of the Tinian community spent the last two weeks working to prepare the children’s memorial grounds for the 6th Annual Tinian Nagasaki Hiroshima Peace Ceremony.

Students from the Tinian High School Student Government, Japan Club, and Young Writers Club have given up their weekends by helping paint and landscape the monument area before the Aug. 6 peace ceremony.

The hardworking students that volunteered their time include Janessa Aquino, Nisha Shrestha, Billy Manglona, Monica Manglona, Alisha Shrestha, Terilyn Taisacan, Virginia Wedding, and Sheila Palacios.

Rep. Edwin P. Aldan and Sen. Henry H. Hofschneider donated landscaping sheets and paint to help prepare the monument area. Members of the business community also pitched in with Don Power from Tinian Ice and Water and Susan Cruz of Susan’s Boutique lending a hand, while Fleming’s Hotel and Restaurant provided refreshments.

Volunteers Ann Marie Hocog and sister Jane Castro have also dedicated valuable time by working to create candleholders for this year’s candlelight vigil scheduled for the evening of Aug. 6.

The organizers of the 6th Annual Tinian Nagasaki Hiroshima Peace Ceremony expressed gratitude to all the volunteers who have helped at the peace ceremony site. Organizers are inviting all interested members of the community to the Sounding of the Sirens Ceremony at 8:50am and the Candlelight Vigil at 6:50pm on Wednesday, Aug. 6. (PR)
