Tinian’s Anthony Borja now leads scoring race in the 2008 PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League even as new faces now occupy seven of the Top 15 slots of the inaugural competition.

In statistics compiled and submitted by PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League coordinator Joey Dela Cruz, Borja has been credited for 243 points in nine games to average 27 points per game.

Department of Community and Cultural Affairs center Abong Camacho finished a shade under the Tinian small forward’s per game norm with his 26.8 average.

In six games, the 6’3” behemoth banged in 161 points. Camacho, however, will no longer add to his season’s total as the U.S. Army Reserve flew to Guam last month to prepare for his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Northern Marianas College high-flying swingman Mark Wallace is in third place after his 152 points in six games allowed him to norm 25.3 markers per ballgame.

Bank of Guam Express do-it-all forward James Villacrusis and NMC rainbow artist Jose Tumaquip complete the Top 5 with averages of 21.4 and 19.7 points per game, respectively. Villacrusis so far has scored 193 points in nine games, while the pint-sized Tumaquip has logged in 138 markers in seven outings.

The rest of the current Top 15 in the 2008 PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League are Department of Corrections’ Luis Iguel (19.6 ppg), PTI’s Edsel Mendoza (19.2 ppg), DOC’s Jeff Quitugua (19 ppg), BoG’s Randy Pelisamen (16.9 ppg), DCCA’s Elias Rangamar (16.2), PTI’s Elmer Esdrelon (15.7 ppg), BoG’s Jason Taisacan (14.7 ppg), Legislature’s Ray Duenas (13.9 ppg), PTI’s Bruce Berline (13.7 ppg), and Legislature’s Dave Apatang (13.1 ppg).

Of the 15, only Borja, Camacho, Villacrusis, Tumaquip, Iguel, Quitugua, Pelisamen, and Rangamar are holdovers from the last time Dela Cruz released an update in the scoring race for the competition.

In the team standings, host PTI is currently lording it over the rest of the 12-team field with a 6-0 mark, followed by NMC (6-1), DOC (5-2), Autonomous (4-2), DCCA (4-2), BoG (6-4), Tinian (4-5), Legislature (3-6), Aguaguat (2-4), Department of Public Works/Procurement & Supply (2-5), Department of Public Safety (0-5), and Commonwealth Ports Authority (0-6).

Currently, the games of the 2008 PTI Inter-Government Business Basketball League are on-and-off due to the power outages at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
