Thea Minor will have a busy month ahead as the CNMI junior netter will compete in New Caledonia after her stint in the 2008 Pacific Oceania Junior Championships.

In an email from Dan O’Connell, the International Tennis Federation official confirmed that Minor has indeed been invited to play in two tournaments in Noumea.

“Thea is part of a six-player team that will participate against the better juniors in New Caledonia and then attend a one week camp directed by Gerard Winter, one of the very best coaches in the region,” he said in a recent email to the Saipan Tribune.

Minor’s mother, Joy, said her daughter welcomes the opportunity to travel to the French territory and gain more experience playing against New Caledonia’s top junior players.

“My daughter is really happy with the invitation to go to New Caledonia. It was really an unexpected invitation from Dan and is another opportunity for Thea to travel and gain more experience, learning and playing with good players from New Caledonia,” she said.

Joy Minor also thanked Grace Christian Academy for allowing her daughter to pursue her tennis dream.

“In spite of this opportunity, we’re not allowing Thea to sacrifice her studies. That’s why were are very thankful for GCA for the support and understanding that they have given her, specially GCA principal Faith Dela Rosa and her teachers.”

Thea Minor and four other CNMI top junior players—Mayuko Arriola, Rafael Jones, Christian Miller, and Dina Jones—left for Fiji last night where they will join Ji Hoon Heo to spearhead the CNMI and North Pacific campaign in the POJC, which will run from Aug. 11 to 16 at the Robin Mitchell Regional Training Centre in Lautoka, Fiji.

Accompanying the group to Fiji is CNMI National Tennis coach and former Pacific Oceania Davis Cup captain Jeff Race.
