Which is considered litter?

a. duck b. banana tree c. candy wrapper

Answer: C. almost anything you throw on the ground and leave there is litter (yes, including banana peels and betel nut).

It’s never alright to litter at an already littered site. In addition to the Department of Public Safety, you can report littering activities to: Mayor’s Office

Department of Public Works

Department of Public Health and Environmental Services

Division of Fish and Wildlife

Coastal Resources Management

Department of Land and Natural Resources

Marianas Visitors Authority

Division of Environmental Quality These government agencies have certified litter control apprehending officers. This means they can cite persons who litter.

In addition to reporting litterbugs, you can take responsibility for your own trash and stop littering. By simply disposing of garbage in proper containers, you are doing your job to not only keep our islands clean. Since not all picnic sites have trash bins or pick-ups, plan on taking your garbage with you. Inform and involve family and friends.

Remember, litter hurts people, animals, and is unsightly.
