DPS schedules four DUI checkpoints
The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting DUI/sobriety checkpoints for four separate days this week and next week.
The first one will be held this Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, with the first setup at the Chalan Pale Arnold Road in Gualo Rai by the Sherwin-Williams Building. This will start around 7:30pm and end at about 8:45pm.
The second setup will be on Beach Road Susupe by Minatchom Atdao. This will begin around 10pm and end at about 11:15pm.
The next DUI/sobriety checkpoint will be held Wednesday next week, Sept. 10, 2008.
The first setup will be on Chalan Pale Arnold Road Chalan Laulau by the PTI building. This will start around 7:30pm and end at about 8:45pm.
The second setup will be on Beach Road Susupe by the Multi-Purpose Building. This will begin around 10pm and end at about 11:15pm.
The third checkpoint will be on Sept. 12, 2008, Friday, with the first setup on Chalan Pale Arnold Garapan by the Saipan Museum. This will start around 7:30pm and end at about 8:45pm.
The second setup will be on Beach Road Susupe by Carmen Safeway. This will begin around 10pm and end at about 11:15pm.
The final DUI/sobriety checkpoint will be on Sept. 13, 2008, Saturday. The first setup will be on Chalan Pale Arnold in Gualo Rai by the former Pop Store. This will start around 7:30pm and end at about 8:45pm.
The second setup will be on Beach Road Garapan by the Cabrera Center. This will begin around 10pm and end at about 11:15pm.
Each checkpoint conducted will last at least 75 minutes (one hour and 15 minutes) at each location. This activity is part of the department’s efforts to deter and detect impaired driving and to ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
Also, traffic officers will be conducting highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser activities.
