The CNMI government wants a man who has been convicted of burning a karaoke bar in western Garapan in 2006 to be deported from the islands.

The Superior Court has ordered YanJie Si to appear in court yesterday and explain why he should not be deported.

Immigration investigator Nicolas Reyes stated in court papers that Si, a Chinese, was issued a nonresident worker’s entry permit in 2006 that expired in May 2008.

Reyes said that on Sept. 24, 2008, Immigration presented information indicating that the respondent has been convicted of a felony. The respondent had pleaded guilty to arson in September 2007 and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. A felony conviction is ground for deportation.

Reyes said that Border Management System records indicate that Si entered the CNMI on Sept. 4, 2008. (Ferdie de la Torre)
