Tan Holdings opens gym for employees
Tan Holdings Corp. employees were on hand yesterday at the company’s grand opening of their new fitness center.
Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan said the opening of Fit Club is part of the company’s focus on employee health.
“Health is priceless,” he said. “I know that many employees enjoy working out, but on island there are very limited facilities.”
The location of Fit Club within the CIC Building makes it very accessible to Tan Holdings employees, he said, since it is centrally located on the island.
The gym includes a treadmill, an elliptical machine, a stationary bicycle, a couple of weight machines, benches for ab workouts, and free weights. It is also equipped with a flat-screen TV.
“I hope employees will take advantage of this facility,” Tan said.
Earlier this year the company made their workplaces smoke free after Saipan Tribune publisher John “JP” Pangelinan passed away in February, following a long bout with lung cancer.
The fitness center is a continuation of that focus on health, Tan said.
Ivan Quichocho, the project manager for Fit Club, said the fitness center caters to a wide range of exercisers—from beginners to serious bodybuilders.
“It’s the only one on island where employees can work out,” he said.
Other companies give employees gym memberships but none have their own gym, he said.
Several Tan Holdings employees who are experienced exercisers will volunteer their time to show others proper work out techniques, Quichocho said.
The gym is open seven days a week from 6am to 10pm and is free for Tan Holdings employees.
Employees who want to work out are issued proximity cards that will grant them access to the facility.
