RNC chairman endorses Pete A.
In a letter dated Oct. 16, 2008, Republican National Committee chair Robert “Mike” Duncan endorsed the candidacy of Republican Pete A. Tenorio in his bid to become he first Delegate to the U.S. Congress from the CNMI.
The letter also recognized the significance of the election.
“This is an historic occasion for your islands as it is the very first time the people of the Northern Marianas are exercising their right, as Americans, to send a Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives,” Duncan told Tenorio. “Congratulations to you and all the people of the CNMI for finally realizing representation in our nation’s legislative body.”
Duncan praised Tenorio’s past accomplishments, saying, “Your long-standing record of public service is testament to your dedication to the people of the Commonwealth.
“As a negotiator who helped craft the Covenant forging the bond between the United States and the Northern Mariana Islands, as a two term Lt. Governor and now as the Resident Representative to the U.S., you have already shown that you possess the qualities of an elected official who gets the job done.’”
Local Republican Party chair Ed Tenorio lauded the endorsement. “This is a big step for the CNMI,” said Ed Tenorio, “as we are the only nationally recognized party from the CNMI. We can finally get our agenda and our needs presented on the national stage. Party affiliation is extremely important in Washington, and Pete A. is recognized by the RNC as a leader who can get things done.” (PR)
