Complete with music and dance entertainment, CNMI’s senior citizens enjoyed a luncheon treat from Fiesta Resort and Spa yesterday at the Office on Aging.

Director Howard I. Macaranas thanked the hotel resort’s management for their generosity, saying they also did this last year.

“I want to specifically extend my appreciation to the efforts of Lupe Flores, Rey Guerrero and Ms. Lou,” Macaranas said.

This, he said, proves that more and more in the community are giving recognition to the man’amko.

“We are overwhelmed because they set up the buffet here in our center and served the food to us. It’s an honest gesture on Thanksgiving Day,” he said.

Fiesta Resort’s general manager B.K. Park visited the center but left before lunchtime due to other commitments.

The hotel’s Human Resource manager, Guadalupe Flores, received a plaque of appreciation from the Center on his behalf.

Flores said this is Fiesta Resort’s way of giving back to the community.

Macaranas was assisted by Office on Aging program coordinator Walter Manglona, Man’amko Council vice chair Carmen Taitano and Man’amko Queen Rosalia Sablan in presenting the plaque to Flores.

Fiesta’s Tasi band and dancers also entertained the senior citizens while they savored the buffet.

“I am extending a big thank you to the management of the hotel for recognizing the senior citizens,” said Deputy Secretary Melvin O. Faisal of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

There are over 300 senior citizens on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Senior Citizens Federal Program Coordinator Rose Mandala said the center provides meals for a total of 194 homebound recipients and 143 who receive congregate meals.

Homebound are those who are pre-diagnosed and could not go to the center while those considered congregate are those who are active and visit the center regularly.

Fiesta Resort is the first company this year to donate an early Thanksgiving Day meal to the man’amko.
Saipan Grand Hotel is also scheduled to treat them to lunch on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
