Saipan projects get $367K funding

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial has signed into law a bill appropriating $367,000 to different construction projects on Saipan.

The new measure sets out how the taxes collected from Saipan developers will be distributed. It appropriates:

$86,000 to pave the student parking area at Kagman High School and the parking areas of staff and faculty at Koblerville Elementary School;

$15,000 to repair the baseball field in Kagman II;

$10,000 for the upkeep of the Veterans Cemetery in Marpi;

$107,000 for the paving and drainage improvement of Tangantangan Road;

$104,000 to upgrade the water lines in Dandan; and

$45,000 to pave the coral road at Northern Marianas College.

Rep. Justo S. Quitugua sponsored the legislation. Six other House members signed on as cosponsors: Reps. David Apatang, Oscar M. Babauta, Joseph N. Camacho, Joseph Deleon Guerrero, Edward T. Salas, and Stanley T. McGinnis Torres. The bill cleared the Legislature on Oct. 23, 2008.
