Zapanta zaps field for 8th monthly plum
Might as well call the Bing Prince of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament Raphael Zapanta’s personal playground.
This after the 14-year-old Saipan Southern High School student won his eighth monthly youth championship last Sunday at the Saipan Bowling Center.
Zapanta followed up his success in October by knocking down 654 pins in four games for an average of 163.5 pinfalls per game.
The youngest son of Ross and Gigi Zapanta started the four-game series with aplomb, tattooing 213 pins in the first game. He struggled in the two middle games, winding up with pedestrian scores of 121 and 148, before closing with a 172.
The November Bing victory adds to the bowling prodigy’s championships in February, March, May, June, July, and August editions of the roll-off aside from the aforementioned October championship.
Like last month, Marion McKenzie came in second with 628 pinfalls built around rolls of 161, 142, 191, and 138—good for a 157 average.
Zack Cruz complete the Top 3 after knocking down 550 pinfalls and averaging 137.5 following a four-game series of 163, 111, 131, and 145.
Zapanta, McKenzie, and Cruz took home $20, $15, and $10, respectively for their performances with the November champion also winning a case of soft drinks courtesy of JET Holdings/Saipan Bowling Center. McKenzie also got a case of Waioka sardines.
Troy Verdaguer (483), Macrel McKenzie (341), and Toby Verdaguer (271) also took part in the monthly roll-off organized by the Saipan Bowling Association and sponsored by MARPAC.
Jon Eparwa and Yho Villavicencio, meanwhile, are currently leading the November Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes. Eparwa rolled a 786 Sunday, while Villavicencio was good for 697 to lead their divisions.
Results of Day 2 of the two-day King and Queen of the Lanes last night were still not available as of press time.
Like the Bing Prince/Princess of the Lanes, the Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes is sponsored by MARPAC and organized by SBA.
