Watanabe wins USSP 8-ball, Turkey Shoot tonight
Taylor Watanabe was in top form Monday in winning USS Peleliu’s last 8-ball tournament before today’s Marianas Turkey Shoot.
Watanabe shot past Ken Phillips, Dean Santos, and Ron Chisato to lead the winners’ bracket, then fought off Santos in their rematch for a perfect night and the championship.
Chisato defeated Annie Tesiro and Jerry Soriano before being sent to the losers’ bracket.
Santos climbed back with wins over Tesiro, Phillips, and Chisato for the chance to face Watanabe. Phillips had eliminated Soriano on an off night for the two-time Turkey Shoot champion.
The sign-up for this year’s fourth edition of the Marianas Turkey Shoot is at 7pm. The entry fee is $15 for the double-elimination (two loss) 8-ball tournament. BCA rules will be followed.
Bud family beer will be $2.50 all night and MARPAC will be providing Cool Gear raffle prizes for players. There will also be live music from 8pm to 12am.
Because of the $15 entry fee, a 16-player field would yield awards of $120, $75, and $45 for first, second, and third places in addition to trophies provided by Pacific Amusement. The first and second place winners also bag a turkey for Thanksgiving.
Roger Espiritu and Rick Rengiil took the turkeys last year, with Rengiil’s only losses coming in their head-to-head matches.
