Rotary, LaoLao resort treat man’amko to meals
The Rotary Club of Saipan treated the man’amko to a lunch buffet yesterday at the Office on Aging.
The Rotarians also provided the senior citizens with free raffle tickets that won them assorted gift items.
Office on Aging director Howard I. Macaranas said this gift-giving is a way of recognizing the senior citizens’ importance in the community.
Rotarians have been doing this every year. Last year, they donated a digital camera and a computer printer.
This year the club promised to repair the center’s Bingo machine, which has been non-operational for quite some time now.
Rotary president Ben Babauta said they would also supply the center with Bingo cards and slots.
“This has always been a significant event for us during this Thanksgiving week,” Babauta said.
In return, the man’amko presented the Rotarians with a plaque of appreciation.
Later in the afternoon, the LaoLao Bay Golf Resort management hosted the man’amko to a dinner in Kagman. Macaranas said this was the first time the resort donated to the man’amko.
Last week, Fiesta Resort and Spa also treated the elderly to lunch.
Macaranas said the business community’s support to the senior citizens is multiplying.
“We are very thankful to them. There is a need to remind the younger generations that the senior citizens are valuable to the community,” Macaranas said.
There are over 300 senior citizens in the CNMI who avail of the center’s services.
