Freedom Air extends win run to five
Freedom Air zoomed to its fifth win in a many games to gain a share of the lead in the Budweiser 2008 Inter Government/Business Softball League.
A 10-7 triumph over Department of Land and Natural Resources in Thursday night’s game at the Capital Hill Ballfield allowed Freedom Air to keep its unbeaten record and tie defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs in the No. 1 spot.
Freedom Air was behind by one run, 6-7, after six complete inning when first baseman Roy Celis connected on a two-run single and pitcher Roque Camacho blasted a two-run triple at the top of the seventh to give their team the lead, 10-7.
Freedom Air preserved the win, as it played tough defense at the bottom of seventh throwing out DLNR’s first three batters. Outfielder Dennis Cruz caught Larry Sebaklim’s fly ball, while Freedom Air shorstop Reno Celis made the same defensive stop against DLNR rightfielder Mike Palacios. The game ended after DLNR extra hitter Paul Lisua flied out to centerfield.
Camacho went 4-for-4 at the plate for Freedom Air and scored two runs, while Roy Celis, who nailed a homer in the first inning, went 3-for-4 and had four RBIs.
A six-run bottom of the fifth anchored by Paul Camacho’s two-run homer put DLNR in the lead, 7-5, before the team was shut out in the last two innings to drop to a 4-2 record.
Jets 19, Law & Order 10
In the first game of the night, the Joeten Motors Jets used an eight-run top of the fifth as cushion en route to a 19-10 win over Law & Order.
After four complete innings, Law & Order led by one, 7-6, but Myron Sablan led the Jets’ recovery at the top of the fifth hitting a three-run single.
Leftfielder Ben Taisacan also helped in the Jets’ comeback, making a two-run homer at the top of the fifth, which ended with Joeten ahead, 14-7.
The Jets never looked back from thereon, as they held Law & Order to only three runs in the last three innings.
J.J. Laniyo was 4-for-4 at the plate for the Jets, scoring four runs, four doubles and four RBIs. Taisacan had five RBIs and was 2-for-3 at-bat.
The Jets improved to a 5-1 record, while Law & Order absorbed its third loss in five games.
No Zone 22, Mayor’s Office 22
Two days after crushing Hopwood, 30-0, No Zone picked up where it left off whipping the Mayor’s Office, 22-9.
Jerry Ayuyu, Ned Norita, Manny Sablan, and Bruce Norita made one homer apiece and combined for 10 RBIs to give No Zone its fourth win in six games.
Mayor’s Office was still in the game after six complete innings, as No Zone was ahead by only three, 12-9.
But No Zone saved the best for last recording a 12-run top of the seventh.
Pitcher Carl Hocog was perfect at the plate going 4-for-4. He scored two runs and one triple and had three RBIs.
The Mayor’s Office remained winless in six games.
