Protecting our coral reefs

In 2009, what will you do to protect our coral reefs?

There are many small steps we each can take on a regular basis to help protect our natural resources. In case you need some ideas, here are some suggestions:

-Bring extra plastic bags to pick up trash at the beach.

-Reduce the amount of waste you produce and reuse what you can.

-Recycle more paper/cardboard, cans, bottles, etc.

-Don’t take anything from Marine Protected Areas. Elsewhere, don’t take shells from our beaches.

-Look but don’t touch. In the water, take only pictures, and leave only bubbles.

-Walk it, don’t drive it! Driving and parking on the beach is illegal.

-Conserve water and energy.

-Plant more trees/plants/flowers.

-Start composting at home.

-Reduce the amount of take-out boxes (and/or) Styrofoam containers.

-Walk, bike, carpool and drive less to reduce carbon emissions.

-Volunteer for beach and reef cleanups.

-Inform your friends and family, and work together to protect our reefs.

-Report dumping or other illegal activities.

-Use reusable bags (canvas totes) instead of plastic bags when grocery shopping
