Traders Insurance Co. supports local artist
Traders Insurance Co., one of the leading insurance companies in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, has extended its support to local artist Marconi Calindas.
Traders Insurance president Lito Mendoza and general manager Mike Licop led the unveiling of the 60X48, six-panel painting entitled “Sun Flower and Friends Series 2” by NMI registered artist Calindas last Dec. 19, at the Traders Insurance head office in Susupe.
The commissioned painting has been part of the company’s project to support the local artists in the CNMI.
Mendoza said he is proud to acquire and display the artwork from Calindas. He added that he has been impressed with Calindas’ unique style, which he said, “brings a huge smile to everyone and lights up everyone’s face. I believe in Marconi’s artistic talent among so many.”
He said he is hoping that the community will recognize the talents of the almost a hundred artists in the CNMI that have been trying to promote the local arts and culture.
“We hope that other establishments will also provide support to the local artists,” he said.
Calindas’ artwork has also been hailed by the Department of Public Health. The agency recently selected Calindas’ artwork to be the cover of its 2008 Health Data Report, which will have a run of over 500 copies and distributed to other Pacific including Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, and many others.
Public Health also recognized local artists in the CNMI during a media briefing held in early December 2008.
Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez earlier congratulated Calindas for his contributions to the national data report through his paintings. Three of Calindas’ artwork were also included in the report. (PR)
