Tiana Lizama, a Grade 4B student of Tinian Elementary School, topped the 2008 “My Holiday Greetings to our Visitors” Drawing Contest.

Lizama won $50 for besting several other entries from Tinian.

Lizama’s classmate Elton Hofsheneider settled for the second place prize of $30, while another schoolmate, Rosemarie Malicdem, Grade 6A, took third place and $20.

The announcement of winners was held during the awarding ceremony for the annual Christmas tree decoration contest last Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Paseo De Marianas.

Grade 5 student Meriden Hocog of Sinapalo Elementary School topped the drawing contest on Rota and went away with the first prize of $50.

Theora Manglona was second and won $30, while Jana S. Mendiola was third for a prize of $20.

The winners drew simple images of the things around the islands.

Lizama’s winning entry has images of a coconut, a house, a lady in her native costume, sun, birds, and other animals.

The contest was organized by the PDM Promoters Inc., a non-profit organization aimed at making Paseo De Marianas and the Garapan vicinity back to a family oriented place and to make it safe and clean for tourist and the local community.

It was in coordination with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

The annual activity drew a huge crowd during the opening on Dec. 3 and the awarding ceremonies on Dec. 18.

Sonia Siwa of PDM Promoters said they hope to make it more exciting and bigger for next year.

“We thank the students for participating in the drawing contest,” she said.
