DeLeon Guerrero to attend Obama inauguration
Matthew Owen DeLeon Guerrero, 19, has been selected for a unique educational opportunity to take part in the historic inauguration of the 44th President of the United States in Washington D.C. on Jan. 20, 2009.
DeLeon Guerrero, who is a sophomore at Boise State University in Idaho, has been selected to participate in the University Presidential Inaugural Conference as an Inaugural Scholar. DeLeon Guerrero was chosen due to his alumnus status with the National Youth Leadership Forum and the International Scholar Laureate Program.
According to the conference organizers, he has additionally met the academic requirements and demonstrated the leadership qualities necessary to make a positive contribution to the quality and integrity of this historic inaugural conference. At the conference he will join five days of special events and activities commemorating the inauguration of the President and Vice President.
A preliminary schedule of events shows that DeLeon Guerrero will participate in a pre-inaugural conference where the keynote speakers are former U.S. Secretary of State Gen. Colin L. Powell, and former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Al Gore. DeLeon Guerrero will also have the opportunity to meet White House officials, congressional staff, presidential historians, and political experts and commentators. Later, DeLeon Guerrero is scheduled to explore historic sites in and around the nation’s capitol and participate in activities and group events. At the Conference, he will join other outstanding scholars from around the world.
On the day of the inauguration, DeLeon Guerrero will be a special guest on the National Mall the morning of Jan. 20, 2009, as Barack Obama is sworn into office as the 44th President of the United State of America. Concluding the Inauguration Day activities, he will attend a black-tie Inaugural Ball.
Matthew is the youngest son of Edward C. and Eve O. DeLeon-Guerrero of Koblerville, Saipan, CNMI. He has just returned from an International Scholar Laureate Program Delegation on Medicine in China from May 27 to June 11, 2008. Matthew’s older brother, Michael, and older sister, Mary Louise, also attend Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Matthew graduated with honors from Mount Carmel High School 2006-07. He was Speaker of the CNMI Youth Congress in 2006-07 and received the Governor’s Award in 2007. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
