Deadline on banner signs extended
The Zoning Board yesterday announced that it is giving business establishments until the end of this month to conform with new regulations regarding the display of banner signs.
In a statement, the Zoning Board noted that the new Saipan Zoning Law of 2008 signed by Gov. Benigno R. Fitial on Dec. 5, 2008, contains new requirements that would affect all businesses producing or displaying banner signs.
This law prohibits most banner signs that advertise a brand name product, contain a brand name, symbol or logo, or contain a product price.
Acting Zoning administrator Therese Ogumoro said she is reminding all business establishments with nonconforming banner signs to comply now.
“The deadline we issued for sign owners, retailers, wholesalers, and all other businesses to remove their nonconforming banner signs has already passed and we provided them a grace period until Jan. 31, 2009,” Ogumoro said.
She said the Board is requesting everyone’s cooperation to have their non-conforming banners taken down by that time.
Ogumoro said the public and the business community are encouraged to visit the Zoning website at www.zoning.gov.mp or they can inquire at the Zoning Board office located at the 2nd floor of Joeten Dandan Building to learn more about the requirements.
This is also a chance for the public or business owners to know more about other requirements such as structural developments.
