Tinian Dynasty Invitational kicks off Feb. 9
The Inaugural Tinian Dynasty Basketball League finally has an opening date as the caging competition organized by the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino will start on Feb. 9 at the Tinian Municipal Gymnasium in San Jose.
The season opener will pit Saipan World Resort against Fiesta Resort and Spa/Saipan Grand Hotel. It will be followed by the second game between Hyatt Regency Saipan and Pacific Islands Club Saipan. Completing the triple-header will be the matchup between Aqua Resort Club and host Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.
TDHC general manager Tom Liu in an earlier report said he is inviting his counterparts from Saipan-based hotels because he wasts to duplicate the success of the past stagings of the HANMI Cup.
“The games will be played every Monday night until a champion is crowned. The tournament is to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie, and friendship in the hospitality industry,” he said.
Liu added that to make the teams’ travel to Tinian worthwhile their food, transportation, and hotel accommodations will all be shouldered by them.
Under the arrangement, Tinian Dynasty will also offer a special room rate of $40 plus 10 percent tax to fans of teams taking part in the competition. Liu said complimentary tickets will also be provided to teams and their supporters.
HANMI Cup coordinator Lito “William” Espino said because of the Inaugural Tinian Dynasty Invitational Basketball League, he may have to consider putting off the start of the 2009 HANMI Cup to later this year.
