WOMEN’S
DCCA 6, CHC 5
Defending women’s champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs eked out a 6-5 win over Commonwealth Health Center in the lone women’s game of the night.
The victory snapped DCCA’s two-game losing skid and improved the defending champion’s record to 4-3 helping the team remain in second place behind the league-leading Northern Marianas College (7-1).
DCCA scored two runs each from the second to the fifth inning, before CHC shut the defending champion out in the last two innings.
But CHC failed to steal the win when it made only one run apiece in the first and second and three in the fifth inning.
At the bottom of the sixth, DCCA pitcher Eula Matsumoto struck out Meng Yamada for the first out, while second batter Ester Leerulu advanced on a Bert Camacho error. CHC was called for the second out when Sheena Sablan flied out.
Fourth batter Natalie Reyes was preparing at the plate when it rained. Organizers later suspended the game and awarded the win to DCCA, which handed CHC its sixth loss in eight matches.
The third game of the night featuring Docomo and the Department of Land and Natural Resources was also cancelled.
