NMC routs DCCA in women’s softball
Northern Marianas College routed defending champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, 20-2, Monday night in the women’s division of the 2008-2009 Budweiser Inter-Government/Business Softball League at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
All NMC players who went to bat, were productive including three hits apiece from Cheryl Obichang, Kuki Pangelinan, and Connie Camacho, two each from Joyce Taro, Tracy Uchao, and Felisa Brel, and one each from Pauline Camacho, Angie Ngirmeduch, Eva Salas, Edwina Baulechong, and Diduch Tudela.
NMC was in control on offense with 26 hits with 20 RBIs against only five hits and one RBI for DCCA.
Pangelinan hit 3-for-4 at bat, including a double, two triples, and finished with five RBIs for NMC, while Baulechong was 4-of-4 with four RBIs.
Taro was 3-for-4 and had two runs and two RBIs; Obichang, two of three, one RBI and one base on ball, Ngirmeduuch, three of four, one run and two RBIs.; and Connie Camacho, three of four, three runs and an RBI.
Brel went 2-for-4, one run, three RBIs, and was struck out once but the winning pitcher was steady at the mound giving only five hits and only three players were able to step at second base.
After a 3-1 lead in the first full inning, NMC jumped to an 18-1 advantage by scoring 10 in the second and five more in the third.
Shortstop Bert Camacho and first basewoman Nadia Saralu scored the two runs for DCCA.
Bert Camacho, who was 2-for-2 in the night, tripled in the first in the bottom of the first inning before reaching the home plate on a sacrifice fly by catcher Janice Camacho.
Saralu scored her team’s second and last run in the fourth on a single by leftfielder Doris Rangamar.
DCCA absorbed its fourth setback in eight games.
The next game in the women’s division will be on Friday night.
Department of Finance will part ways with Commonwealth Utilities Corporation starting at 7:30pm.
The two teams are currently tied with 3-4 win-loss records.
