A Saipan-born teenager died in a Seattle hospital last Sunday after being in a coma for almost four months due to head injuries he sustained in a car accident in Seattle.

Jesse Daryl “JD” Lizama Sablan, who turned 18 last Christmas Day, reportedly fell from a parked car on Oct. 5, 2008.

According to Dorothy Reyes Lizama Sablan, her son JD had just attended a party with some friends.

As JD and two other male friends were sitting and chatting on top of a car’s trunk, a person got into the car and drove off.

JD and his two friends fell down. JD and one of his friends were injured; the third one was not.

Mrs. Sablan said the second victim was able to recover from his injuries, but her son, JD, fell into a coma due to brain injuries.

Mrs. Sablan said the case is still under investigation, but police already know the driver because there were witnesses.

“Jesse was soft-hearted, respectful, loving, fun to be around, and motivated to do whatever he set his mind to do. He enjoyed being around kids and most especially family,” she said.

Mrs. Sablan said her son was very good in football and basketball and that music was one of his greatest joys.

“He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, infectious laugh, as well as all those jokes he used to tell to cheer up a close friend whenever they felt down or sad,” she said.

JD’s father is retired CNMI government employee, Edward Iglesias Sablan. He has one sister, Geralyn, and four brothers—Edward Jr., Edwin Gregory, Jason Christopher, and Gerald.

JD was born on Saipan. After graduating from the San Vicente Elementary School, his family relocated to Seattle, Washington in 2003.

The family said visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 30, from 2pm to 9pm at Bonney Watson Washington Memorial Park at 16445 International Blvd. Sea Tac, WA 98188. Rosary will be held at 7pm.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Bernadette Parish 861 S.W. 126th St. Seattle, WA 98146. Burial will immediately follow at Washington Memorial Park.
