A trade wind surge is expected to generate combined seas of 10 feet or more through today, prompting the Emergency Management Office to issue a small craft advisory for hazardous seas.

While winds have diminished to 15-20 knots yesterday morning, EMO said that seas will remain near 10 feet through at least early Saturday.

The EMO is strongly advising the public—especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers, and surfers—to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches. The agency advised people to specially avoid areas along north- and west-facing reefs as rip current are life threatening.

Based on the information received from National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI EMO, today’s east wind will be 15-20 knots and wind waves 5-7 feet with east swell at 6 feet. East winds tonight, meanwhile, will be 15-20 knots and wind waves 5-7 feet with east swell at 7 feet. Thursday east winds are 15-20 knots, wind waves 4-6 feet, and east swell 8 feet.
