Hundreds of delegates are expected to arrive on Saipan in June for this year’s Pacific Islands Environment Conference, which is a venue to examine environmental challenges and issues facing the Pacific islands.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pacific Islands Office will host the conference on June 22 to 26.

“The conference will be attended by 200 to 300 environmental officials and representatives from the U.S., Guam, American Samoa, CNMI, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and other countries in the Pacific,” said Reina Camacho, public information officer at the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality.

DEQ is still in the early planning stages for the five-day conference.

As with previous conferences, sessions will discuss strategies to make a difference in protecting the island environments and provide island leaders with the latest ideas and tools on preserving fragile ecosystems.
