Burglars in CK steal $20K cash, checks, jewelry
A house in Chalan Kanoa was recently burglarized and over $20,000 in cash, checks, jewelry and other items were stolen.
The house was occupied by three employees of LD Prime Corp., which is engaged in the wholesale business in Gualo Rai.
Gemma Batusin, sales marketing of LD Prime Corp., told Saipan Tribune yesterday they are wondering why the Department of Public Safety did not release the burglary report to the media.
Batusin said the burglary happened during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 19.
She said over $10,000 cash and another $10,000 in checks belonging to LD Prime Corp. were stolen. She said the cash and checks represented the company’s collections that weekend.
Joseph Caranto, LD’s heavy equipment operator and purchasing manager, was supposed to deposit the cash and checks in the bank, but that Monday was a holiday.
Batusin said she discovered the burglary Monday at 2:30pm when she arrived with her child and noticed the rooms were in disarray.
Also stolen were jewelry worth about $3,000, a camera, a watch, and the company’s digital camera, she said.
Batusin said the cash and checks were in a cabinet and the jewelry and other items were in their room.
She said they believe that the person who entered their house was a minor who gained entry through a small opening in the kitchen’s window.
Batusin and Caranto urged anyone who has information about the case or the suspect/s to call DPS or Crime Stoppers Program.
