Marianas March Against Cancer set May 22-23
The Commonwealth Cancer Association’s 2009 Marianas March Against Cancer is set for May 22-23.
The largest fundraising event in the CNMI to support cancer education and promote awareness will be held at Hopwood Junior High School from 6pm on May 22 to 6am the following day.
“As one of the leading causes of illness and death in the CNMI, and all around the world, cancer greatly impacts many aspects of our lives. Cancer affects people of all races, age groups and genders. Fortunately, the search for a cure is making substantial progress. With events like the Marianas March Against Cancer we are continuing to raise critically needed funds in the fight against this deadly disease,” said CCA in a statement.
It added that the event not only raises funds, it elevates awareness and encourages hope for those struggling with the disease. MMAC gives supporters an opportunity to honor and be with cancer survivors, and to remember those who have lost the battle against this terrible affliction.
MMAC is the signature fundraising event for the CCA, a volunteer-driven organization which ensures that all funds raised are applied locally. All funds raised will go towards the fight against cancer.
Anyone interested in forming a team and would like to participate in this event may attend the next MMAC’s team captains’ meeting on Feb. 18, 5:30pm. The venue will be announced at a later time.
In the meantime, for more information regarding forming a team, e-mail Reina Camacho at reinacamacho@gmail.com. The MMAC Committee will also have its next meeting this Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 12pm.
