Marianas Navy chief named for promotion

Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) William D. French, who is currently serving as commander of the Navy Region Marianas/U.S. Pacific Command, has been nominated by President Obama for appointment to the rank of rear admiral.

French’s nomination was announced yesterday by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, together with that of 25 others, all of them lower half Navy rear admirals nominated for promotion to the rank of rear admiral.

French is also the U.S. Pacific Command Representative for Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau and is the commander of the U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas, Guam.[B][I] (DoD)[/I][/B]
