MVA, MTEC ad promotes island hospitality with native greetings
The Marianas Visitors Authority and Marianas Tourism Education Council have launched a new television ad promoting indigenous language greetings as a way to demonstrate island hospitality to visitors.
The 60-second ad, airing on KSPN2 News and The Visitors Channel, features two visiting Japanese learning to master the indigenous greetings of “hafa adai” (Chamorro for hello) and tirow (Carolinian for respect to another).
“Saipan, Tinian and Rota provide a unique opportunity in the world for visitors to experience indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian culture,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “The new ad aims to encourage the use of these indigenous greetings by our island community when welcoming visitors.”
The ad was produced by Flame Tree TV and was shot at several locations, including Paseo de Marianas and Fiesta Resort & Spa.
“We’re very pleased to partner with MVA on this educational outreach,” said MTEC chair Ed Cho. “We encourage everyone to share the island spirit with a visitor with a simple “hafa adai” or “tirow.”
