Naru Tomo! show highlights Saipan
Japanese variety show Naru Tomo! has chosen Saipan as the site of its 5th anniversary special, filming over the weekend of Feb. 28-29 at various locations on the tropical vacation island.
A 30-member team, including a director, talent, a talent manager and camera crew, kicked off shooting at Saipan World Resort at 8am on Saturday. The show will feature two teams of comedians vying for prizes including optional tours, meals, and limousine transportation around island. Tourist sites and attractions to be introduced to Japanese viewers through the show include Aquanaut sea bottom walking, Saipan Zoo, indigenous Chamorro cooking at Tan Goro Snack Shop, Kalabera Cave, the island’s summit at Mt. Tapochao, the Grotto diving spot, local beaches, shopping in downtown tourist district of Garapan, fishing, and an island-style beach barbecue.
Near the end of shooting at Aquarius beach, show host Narumi was surprised with a cake celebrating the 20th anniversary of her public entertainment career.
“Naru Tomo! has been very popular in eastern Japan since its inception five years ago, and we’re happy to be a part of their upcoming anniversary special,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Perry Tenorio. “The winner in this light-hearted competition is really the Northern Marianas, given the significant publicity we will receive from the show.”
Naru Tomo! airs weekday mornings on Yumiuri TV, reaching nearly 9 million households in eastern Japan. The anniversary special featuring Saipan will air on Sunday, March 22, for 85 minutes. The approximate ad exposure value is $4,546,000 US. (MVA)
