PSS sets youth summit in May
The Public School System, through the office of Education Commissioner Dr. Rita A. Sablan, will conduct a youth summit in May that will focus on three main areas: service and volunteerism, constructive projects, and youth mentoring.
This was disclosed yesterday by students’ representative Francine Babauta, who said the event aims to reach out to more youths and students in the community.
Babauta said a youth advisory panel was created by Sablan who later formed an executive committee for summit.
The committee, she said, is composed of all middle and high school STUCCO presidents, National Honor Society presidents, battalion commanders, and other youth leaders on campus.
From there, subcommittees were formed including the historical, project, and planning committees.
Babauta said the summit is slated in May and they are targeting to attract over 200 participants from schools and the community.
She said these subcommittees are meeting Thursday each week for the preparation and planning.
Babauta said mentoring will also be expanded to assist students who may find difficulty in meeting their credit requirements in school.
