Sakisat backs out from senatorial bid
Two weeks after announcing his decision to run for a Senate seat on Tinian, Martin M. Sakisat yesterday backed out from the race, saying the year not “good timing” for him.
“After careful consultation with my families and friends, I have reached this very tough decision to back out … because we feel this year is a bad timing for me,” he said.
However, Sakisat said that he will consider running for the same position in the future.
He admitted that support for him at this time is inadequate. “I think the timing is not right and we need more support,” he said.
Sakisat, now a Covenant party member, reiterated his support to the re-election bid of the party’s standard bearer, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and Eloy Inos, in the general election.
He intends to give his full support to all the candidates to be endorsed by the party.
Sakisat ran in the midterm election as independent but was defeated by incumbent Sen. Henry San Nicolas, who is also a Covenant Party member.
Sakisat is a former classroom teacher of the Public School System and had served terms as chief of staff of former Senate President Juan S. Demapan and acting resident director of Tinian public health center.
