The Northern Marianas College’s Division of Community Programs and Services’ Community Development Institute recently recognized several individuals who completed the program’s English Language Development Course.

The course taught participants the fundamentals of the English language such as enunciation, pronunciation and dialogues. The course also helped students understand and master the grammatical concepts necessary for interactive skills development. Throughout the course, students practiced these concepts in oral dialogue and conversation exercises.

Many of the 23 participants in this course were international students participating in internship programs to learn about the hospitality field and hotel management at various hotels and resorts on Saipan. These interns were mainly college students from various countries of Asia, including China and Korea. In addition, the students sought to improve their English language skills and to learn about CNMI and American culture while interning on Saipan.

The 13 participants present at the award ceremony were given Certificates of Competence on Friday, April 3, in the Executive Conference Room of the Saipan World Resort.

The Community Development Institute is offering other personal enrichment and professional development courses, such as the “Customer Service and Administrative Training” and “Computer Literacy” courses that are open to community members.
