[B]Memorial Day committee meeting today [/B]May 25, 2009 is Memorial Day, during which the CNMI will pay tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have passed away. The community will remember those who served the nation so that everyone may enjoy the fruits of freedom of a democratic society. This is to let all Memorial Day Committee members and all interested in being a part of the committee that we will begin to meet every Tuesday at 9am starting on April 14, 2009, at the Office of Military/ Veterans Affairs on Capitol Hill building 1364. The Commonwealth Ports Authority informs the public that the CPA field at the airport is available to all free of charge. However, before anyone can use the field, it must be reserved with the CPA. Any unreserved activities are not permitted and must clear the entire field without demand for the reserved activity. Everyone’s cooperation is requested and appreciated.
[B]Brilliant Star School sets free presentation[/B]The Brilliant Star School is offering a Parent Discovery Evening in place of its regular open house as part of efforts to share what a Brilliant Star education is.
The presentation, titled “What is Elementary?,” will be held Thursday, April 16, 6:30pm. This will be another dynamic evening that will preview the elementary learning experience. Attendees may invite friends.
What to expect:
* A presentation of the 5th cosmic fable: The Story of Numbers.
* Examples of how we teach time management and the balancing of work choices
* Record keeping and assessment
* How we address classroom management
* Child work examples
* The characteristics of the 6-12 aged child, such as what changes you can expect in them as they grow, and how to support their development.
Brilliant Star School provides education for children 12 months to 12 years old. This special Parent Discovery Evening focusing on Elementary Education is open to the public.

[B]Chacha Oceanview celebrates Health Week[/B]The Chacha Oceanview Junior High School will be celebrating its annual Health and Wellness Week from April 14-17, 2009. This year’s theme is “Nutrition, Exercise and Discipline…Health for life.” This week, students and parents will be participating in different events for each day. The scheduled events are as follow:
April 14 “Health for life” walk: Students are encouraged to join us from 3pm-6pm to do a walk around the soccer field. T-shirt will be given to participants that complete 15 laps. There will be other giveaways for the event.
April 15 Healthy Snacks Day: Students are encouraged to bring healthy snacks to school for the day. There will be prizes for the homeroom class with the most number of participants.
April 16 All Sports Day: Students will be participating in various sports activities with other students from Hopwood Junior High School.
April 17 Sports Expo and parents’ softball game: We are inviting athletes from various sports to interact with students and give students pointers on staying physically fit.
We are also inviting parents that wish to play softball on this day after school with COJHS staff. Contact Joe San Nicolas at 237-3921 if you wish to participate. We would like to invite you as our parents to take time to participate in any of the activities. (PR)
[B]CPA triennial disaster drill Wednesday[/B]The Commonwealth Ports Authority is holding their Triennial Disaster Drill Exercise on April 15, 2009, from 9am to about 12pm. This drill allows CPA and other CNMI government agencies to review and assess procedures that are to be adhered to, to safely respond to a disaster, should it occur at the Saipan International Airport. This year’s drill includes an aircraft incident scenario. Emergency vehicles from different agencies will be traveling to and from the Saipan International Airport for the duration of this drill and for the public not to be alarmed. (CPA)

[B]Income tax return deadline[/B]The Division of Revenue and Taxation wishes to inform all CNMI residents that the deadline for filing of the 2008 individual Income Tax Return is Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the office of the Division of Revenue and Taxation located at the Joeten Dandan Commercial Center. [B]Quarterly tax return deadline[/B]The Division of Revenue and Taxation wishes to remind all CNMI residents that the 2009 1st Quarter deadline for filing the quarterly tax returns is Thursday, April 30, 2009.
