Professional triathletes who are here for the 2009 Saipan Sports Fest will be sharing their knowledge and skills tomorrow afternoon during a free sports clinic at the Pacific Islands Club.

The sports clinic, which will give an opportunity for athletes of all types of sports events, will be held at from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

The first session will be about injury prevention to be conducted by triathlete and sports trainer Alan Collinson.

British pro Jim McConnel will join him for the session that is geared toward injury prevention.

McConnel, who finished sixth overall in the just-concluded 8th Annual XTERRA Saipan Championship, will also give an inspirational talk about sports and its lifetime benefits to athletes.

Then at 7pm a panel of pro triathletes that includes five-time women’s XTERRA Saipan winner Renata Bucher of Switzerland, 2009 men’s champion Sam Gardner of Great Britain, and 2008 champion Andrew Noble of Australia.

Bill Sakovich of the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation said this session would take about one and a half hours.

Sakovich is encouraging interested participants to ask questions during the open forum.

The topic will be about training in general such as bike and swimming techniques, mountain running and biking, cross training, and anything related to sports.

Russ Quinn will be the moderator for the sessions.

Sakovich said both sessions are open to all athletes.

These activities are part of the ongoing 2009 Saipan Sportsfest.

After last Saturday’s XTERRA Saipan, the next big event will be the 20th Tagaman Triathlon with Bucher and Gardner looking as the top favorites to win the PIC Double.

The total times for both the local XTERRA and the Tagaman will be added.

The athlete with the fastest time combined will win the PIC Double, sponsored by PIC.

The winners on both the men’s and women’s divisions will be entitled to free accommodations at the PIC for the duration of next year’s Sports Fest.
