SANTA RITA, Guam—The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 held a change of command ceremony at the command’s compound on U.S. Naval Base Guam April 28.

During the ceremony, which is the official passing of responsibility, authority, and accountability of command from one officer to another, Cmdr. Robert Debuse relieved Cmdr. Robert Baughman.

Baughman led EODMU-5 for the last two years. Baughman is leaving the island to be the deputy commander for Task Force Troy in Iraq. Task Force Troy is a joint counter improvised explosive device task force. At the change of command, Baughman took the opportunity to thank the men and women of EODMU-5.

“You need to take a step back and look at everything we’ve accomplished,” Baughman said. “You’re the most hardworking group of Sailors I’ve worked with.”

Debuse said he is ecstatic to take the helm of a great command forged by Baughman’s leadership and commitment.

“[Cmdr.] Baughman is a great leader, a great friend and he’s done a wonderful job…of creating a cohesive and well-trained command,” Debuse said. “I can’t ask for a better situation to be stepping into.”

The mission of EODMU-5, a forward-deployed mobile command, is to provide explosive ordnance disposal detachments throughout the Commander, Seventh Fleet area of responsibility to enable access for fleet, mine countermeasures, joint expeditionary and special operations forces. (PR)
