SANTA RITA, Guam—The French frigate Vendemiaire of the French Marine Nationale arrived at U.S. Naval Base Guam May 1 for a port visit and training.

Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 7 sailors conducted close quarters training with Vendemiaire Sailors May 1. The purpose of the training was to increase coordination, communication, cooperation between the U.S. and an allied nation. The training also provided an opportunity for both the U.S. and French forces to exercise their teams’ security skills.

Frigate Vendemiaire was built in Saint-Nazaire shipyards in France in 1993 and is homeported in Noumea, New Caledonia. Vendemiaire is a light monitoring frigate of the French navy and is also the fifth ship of her class. The ship is used for various duties, including humanitarian aid, diplomacy, and naval law enforcement.

MSRON-7, which was commissioned in May 2004, provides rapidly deployable point defense personnel and assets for force protection/anti-terrorism operations in support of the numbered Fleet Commanders. (PR)
