Dandan students triumph in All Schools
Seven student-athletes in the elementary division of the 2008 All Schools Track and Field Championships went home with two gold medals, making them candidates for top athletes awards in three age groups.
Leading the list were three students from Dandan Elementary School, namely Jerimo Okaruru, Janelle Reyes, and Jeremy Lizama.
Okaruru ruled the boys’ U8 200m and 400m runs; Reyes dominated the girls’ U8 100m and 200m races; and Lizama triumphed in the boys’ U12 200m and 400m runs
Joining the Tottots’ student-athletes in the double gold medalists club were Saipan International School’s Julia Ishikawa and Angelo Jones, Saipan Community School’s Tammy Ackerman, and Brilliant Star’s Jillian Villagomez.
Jones ruled the 1,500m and 3,000m races in the boys’ U12 division. He timed in at 14 minutes 17.2 seconds in the 3,000m run to beat Whispering Palms’ Danny Auther (15:04.6) and teammate Hunter Jewell (15:09.6). In the 1,500 run, Jones clocked in at 7:03.2 to outrace seven other participants.
Ishikawa prevailed in the girls’ U8 1,500 and 800m races; Ackerman won in the girls’ U10 long jump and 400m run; and Villagomez topped the girls’ U8 400m race and softball throw.
Other gold medalists in the All Schools meet held last Friday and Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex were Saipan International School’s A.J. Hudkins and Taylor Knecht; Whispering Palms’ John Auther, Neghar Rastguiy, Gabrielle Race, Colin Ramsey, Phalai Frink and Kenyon Schultz; William S. Reyes’ Jasmine Umbay, Ethan and Spencer Dickinson, Almina Deleon Guerrero, Nathan Camacho, Christian Morales, and Alvina Palacios.
Dandan Elementary School’s Joel Demapan and Anthony Deleon Guerrero; Saipan Community School’s Xuan Jun Lu, Jin Pyo Jeon and Lydin Johnson; Kagman Elementary School’s Miyuki Muna, Dion Deleon Guerrero and Carlos Aguon; Tanapag Elementary School’s Mievanalyn Iguel and Juan Quitugua; and San Antonio Elementary School’s Joseph Fejeran.
The Northern Marianas Athletics will name the top performers in the girls and boys’ U8, U10, U12, U14, and U18 divisions after tabulating points gained by the medalists in the respective events they joined in.
