Saipan Senior League All-Stars named
Saipan Little League Baseball has named a 16-man Senior All-Star Team that will compete against Tinian in next month’s 2009 District Tournament.
The Saipan Senior All-Stars are led by six players from 2009 champion Tan Holdings Fielders. Joining them are four players from pennant champions Jets, three from D-9ers, two from Lion King, and one from Ol’Aces.
Included in the Saipan Senior All-Stars lineup are Fielders’ Jonathan Celis, Juan Maratita, Nokki Saralu, Peter Tenorio, Tom Agulto, and Ton Aguon; the Jets’ Eli Augenbaugh, Harry Nakamura, Joe Palacios, and Joshua Jones; D-9ers’ Dave Jones, Eric Tenorio, and Mart Sablan, and the Ol’Aces’ Mike Iguel.
Patrick Tenorio is the Senior All-Stars manager, while Jonathan Tenorio and John Manibusan are the coach and assistant coach, respectively.
Patrick Tenorio, in an interview with Saipan Tribune Thursday night, said they are not taking their Tinian lightly, as anything can happen in the district meet.
He added coaches, players, and managers should take a cue from the similar incident in the Junior and Senior League playoffs. Protests on uniform violations marred the playoff round of the two divisions.
Patrick Tenorio said issues on technicalities can cost a team a lot, so players, managers, and coaches must be extra cautious and look at all aspects of the game.
The district meet will run from June 5 to 7 at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield and at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield with Junior and Major All-Stars from Tinian also competing against SLLB’s bets.
Winners of the three-day event will represent the CNMI to the 2009 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament.
The regional meet for the Majors will be held in Chinese-Taipei from July 5 to 12, while Jakarta, Indonesia will host the regional tournament for Juniors, Seniors, and Big League from June 23 to 28.
Tinian and Rota do not have Big League All-Stars, so Saipan’s Big League All-Stars automatically earn a trip to the regionals.
Victors of the regional tournaments will advance to the World Series.
The CNMI Big League All-Stars made it to last year’s World Series in Easley, South Carolina.
