Santos, ESGR volunteer, gets Lifetime Achievement Award
TUMON, Guam—Retired Col. Joaquin “Danny” S. Santos Jr. was recognized at the 1st Annual ESGR Awards Gala with the organization’s coveted Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to one person with significant achievements in promoting ESGR objectives for more than 20 years.
The May 2 gala, which organizers from the Guam/CNMI Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve called a great success, was attended by more than 250 people at Marriott Guam Resort.
“We were very pleased with how many people who came to the gala to celebrate local businesses who employ members of the Guard and Reserve,” said ESGR president Paul D. Leon Guerrero. “Although Ret. Col. Santos was unable to be there, it was an honor to see our first Lifetime Achievement Award given to such a worthy individual. Because of people like him, we know our servicemen and women on deployment will always have supporters back at home to help out when they need it.”
Santos, a native of Guam, graduated from George Washington High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton and a master’s degree from Pepperdine University. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps while attending college, and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant upon graduation. His career has included staff and command assignments with the Fleet Marine Force in command, control, communications and intelligence.
Upon retirement, Santos returned to Guam and led the transition at GTA from analog to digital technology. He continued his career at Sprint Guam, where he was instrumental in the introduction of domestic rate integration of Guam and the CNMI. He is currently employed as assistant general manager of Consolidated Administration.
Santos is an active member of the Third Marine Division Association (Guam Chapter), the Nino Perdido Parish Council, and serves as vice-chairman of ESGR. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, a Humanitarian Resolution from the Province of Zambales, Republic of the Philippines; and was inducted into the President’s Club, Sprint International. He is married to the former Rosalia Bamba Castro of Agana Heights. They have six children.
ESGR is a Department of Defense agency that seeks to develop and promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees. It does so by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law and resolving conflicts through mediation.
Several employers were honored at the organization’s 1st Annual Gala with awards including the Seven Seals Award, Volunteer Appreciation, the FC Spirit of Volunteerism Award, Above and Beyond Awards and Pro Patria Awards. (PR)
