With more prizes at stake this year, Beach Road Magazine’s 3rd Annual Car Rally takes island adventure a notch higher.

Winners this year will get $200, $150, and $100 in cash for first, second, and third prizes. Every team gets a prize for making it through the course. Prizes include steak, seafood and all-you-can-eat teppanyaki dinners for two at The Palms on Pau Pau Beach, a GSM prepaid phone with starter kit and $20 load from Docomo Pacific, as well as gifts from Saipan Grand Hotel, Boarderline, Thrifty Car Rental, Micronesian Brokers, Inc. and Laolao Bay Golf Resort, among others.

“I’m hoping the rally participants are ready for a more challenging event this year,” says car rally master and BRM account manager Susan Marchitti.

Asked what participants can expect from the 3rd BRM Annual Car Rally, Marchitti remarks, “The course will be a little longer and they can expect some surprises.”

For her part, Marchitti hopes there’ll be some adventurous tourists who will take part and families that will participate, too, as “kids really seem to have a lot of fun.”

Last year, 17 teams participated in the 2nd Annual BRM Annual Car Rally where Amanda Hayes, U.S. District Court staff, and her team took first place. Given the mental challenges on the road, Hayes, in a media statement, said winning the car rally was unexpected.

This year, the rally remains open to drivers 16 years and older and tourists are invited to take part. Each car is required to have at least one driver and as many navigators as needed to complete the course.

BRM’s car rally is a competitive motoring event patterned after car rallies in the United States and Europe. Drivers are tasked to complete a course by following instructions that test the team’s attention to detail and navigation skills. The starting point will be announced upon registration. A new set of instructions is given at every checkpoint. Following the instructions to a T is crucial, as it can make or break a team’s chances of accumulating points to win the car rally.

Registration is $15 and space is limited to 60 cars. Grab a copy of BRM for the entry forms or pick up one at Subway Restaurants, fill them out and submit to the Glimpses of Saipan office on the second floor of the Transpac Business Center along Middle Road, Gualo Rai (near Subway restaurant) during regular business hours from 8am to 5pm.

So, gear up and get ready for the most challenging car event of the year, sponsored by Joeten Enterprises, Shell Marianas, American Red Cross, Division of Fish and Wildlife’s Brown Tree Snake Program, and Budget Rent a Car.
