Earthquake jolts Rota

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Rota and Saipan Saturday morning.

The Emergency Management Office said there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas. No damage to property or injuries was reported to EMO.

Only few people on Rota and Saipan felt the quake.

EMO said the earthquake occurred at 10:40am and was centered at latitude 14.046 degrees north and 125.180 degrees east.

This is about 10 miles south-southwest of Rota and 85 miles south-southwest of Saipan.

Last April 17, three earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.7, 4.9, and 5.0 on the Richter scale hit Rota. But EMO also reported there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas and no damage to property or injuries reported.

Only few people on Rota did not feel the earthquakes.
