$10K hole-in-one prizes at PH Independence Open
A whopping $10,000 will be at stake as hole-in-one prizes in the 113th Philippine Independence Day Open Golf Tournament that will kick off this Sunday at Coral Ocean Point.
The prizes will be split for hole No. 3 and No. 12 and golfers can also join the closest to the pin contest on these two holes and the No. 7 and 14 holes. A mulligan will be sold at $5 for two strokes.
Besides the hole-in-one prizes, the tournament will also give cash prizes to the Top 5 finishers in the double-peoria tournament. The champion will take home $700, $500 for the runner-up, $400 for third, $200 for fourth, and $100 for fifth. The Top 3 placers will also win trophies.
Entrance fee is only $100, inclusive of cart rent and admission to the banquet at the Aqua Resort Club’s Rey Lounge from 6pm to 10pm. Show-time is at 10am, while a shotgun tee-off will take place at 12pm.
The Philippine Independence Day Open is organized by the Fil-Taga Golfers Association and will be a farewell tournament for outgoing Fil-Taga president Ted Malaran. The event is also a fundraiser with part of the proceeds to be donated to junior golfer R.J. Macaranas and Karidat.
Darrel Fair won last year’s tournament, beating 59 other players. He tallied a handicap of 14.4 and fired a 42 and 45 on the front and back nines, respectively, for a gross score 87 and net 72.6. Fair prevailed over Carl Hocog (73.2) and junior golfer Jun Yi Piao (77). Danilo Quitugua and Steve Balakrishna completed the Top 5.
Meanwhile, registration for the Sunday tournament, which is supported by Asahi Brewers Ltd., Exxon Mobil Micronesia, Joeten Wholesale, Pacific Wines & Spirits, Yaong Corp., K.L. Carr Enterprises, HBR International, and Triple J Wholesale, Cosmos Distributing Co., Kautz Glass & Co., Aqua Resort Club, KWAW FM 100 Magic Radio, Ben’s International , G.E.C. Pawnshop, and Traders Insurance Co., is still open.
