US Coast Guard suspends search for Pinoy seaman

[B]HONOLULU[/B]—The Coast Guard suspended its search for a man overboard approximately 863 miles northeast of American Samoa at 5 p.m., Saturday.

An aircrew piloting an HC-130 Hercules airplane from Air Station Barbers Point was launched at 2:24am and arrived in the search area at 8:15am Friday. The aircrew saturated the search area covering a total area of 1,012 square miles.

Watchstanders in Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received a request for assistance in locating an overboard Filipino crewmember off the 172-foot fishing vessel Hung-Yi at 9:44pm Thursday. The request originally came from RCC Taipei and was sent to both RCC New Zealand and JRCC Honolulu. [B][I](PR)[/I][/B]
