The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is requesting for assistance from the Technical Services Division of the Department of Public Works for its planned roof hardening project.

John Oliver Gonzales, JKPL executive director, wrote to DPW secretary Martin C. Sablan on July 28 to formalize the request.

Gonzales said he followed up from the Division of Procurement and Supply the Request for Proposal package for the library’s roof hardening project.

The project, which involves the repair and replacement of the library’s roof, received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development early this year.

Gonzales was informed, however, that they would need TSD to finalize the RFP package for the project.

“We understand that Northern Marianas Housing Corporation has been tasked to handle the environmental study aspect of things so any assistance TSD can render to JKPL and to initiate contact with NMHC is welcome,” he said in his letter to Sablan.

Gonzales said in an interview Wednesday that they want the finish the RFP so they can start with the actual roof repairs.

“We want to expedite this whole RFP because we want this project to get started,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Gonzales hopes that the project will wrap up in time for their 20th anniversary celebration this December.
