Intoxicated teenager who attacked taxi drivers at Hyatt gets 4-month jail term
Superior Court associate judge Perry B. Inos has imposed a four-month jail term on a teenager, who, while intoxicated, reportedly assaulted three taxi drivers with a knife and a rock at Hyatt Regency Saipan’s parking lot.
Inos sentenced 18-year-old Johnny Ezra to five years in prison, all suspended except four months, for attempted aggravated assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Inos gave Ezra credit for the 91 days he already served in jail.
After completing the jail term, the teenager will be placed on probation for two years. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine, $100 court assessment fee, and $100 probation fee.
The judge ordered Ezra to write letters of apology to the taxi drivers—Mostafa Kamal, Mohammed Mostafa Kamal, and Quazi Hasanul Karim.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Ezra with assault with a dangerous weapon, attempted aggravated assault and battery, assault, disturbing the peace, and minor consuming alcohol.
Ezra and his counsel signed a plea agreement with the government. He pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault and battery. In exchange, the government dismissed the remaining charges.
Police said that on May 2, 2011, Ezra, while intoxicated, assaulted the three taxi drivers with a knife and a rock at Hyatt’s parking lot.
