Micronesian Games Outstanding Male Athlete Rezne Wong started his campaign in the 2011-2012 season of the NCAA Division 1 swimming competition on a positive note after ruling an individual medley race mid this month.

Wong and his University of Hawaii-Manoa swim team debuted in the 2011-2012 season with a dual meet against the 2011 champions University of California Berkeley on Oct. 13 at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley with the CNMI tanker giving the Rainbow Warriors nine points for topping the 200y IM race.

In the 200y medley relay, Wong was on UH-Manoa Team C and joined forces with Lazar Bogdanovski, Mitchell Reed, and Trey Herbert. The CNMI swimmer did the breaststroke part of the medley relay and completed his lap in 26.70 seconds. The group timed in at 1:37.83 for seventh place.

In the 100y breaststroke, Wong also placed seventh after timing in at 59.79 seconds.

Wong’s team won six of the 16 events against University of California Berkeley and lost in points, 135-154.

From Berkeley, Wong and company traveled the next day to Palo Alto to face Stanford University.

Against Stanford, the UH-Manoa sophomore swam in the 200y breaststroke and finished second behind Sharify with the former submitting 2:04.85 against the latter’s 2:04.51. Wong also competed in the 400y IM and placed fourth with a time of 4:05.27.
