A female cashier was injured during a store robbery and a woman lost her money and other items to a snatcher in separate robbery incidents Thursday night last week on Saipan.

Police officer Jason Tarkong said yesterday that the NMI Crime Stoppers Program is seeking the community’s assistance for information on the two robbery cases.

Tarkong said a 57-year-old cashier suffered minor injuries to the head in the robbery at Cery Store in Kannat Tabla. She was treated at the scene by emergency responders.

Tarkong said that three unidentified persons dressed in black masks and black clothing entered the Cery Store on Thursday, April 12, at 7:33pm.

The first suspect approached the cooler area of the store while the two other suspects approached the victim at the counter.

The second suspect, who was armed with a butcher knife, walked around the cashier counter and grabbed the victim by her hair. The second suspect then slammed the cashier’s head against the counter thrice, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained consciousness, she saw the suspects fleeing the store. One suspect ran west while the two others ran east. The robbers reportedly took off with $500 cash.

In the Garapan robbery, Tarkong said a 32-year-old Chinese woman was robbed of her purse on Thursday, April 12, at 11:24pm, near Capitol Bowling.

Tarkong said the victim was walking east along Orchid Street by the 3JM Vegetable Fruit Market when an unidentified man began walking behind her. Upon reaching the Capitol Bowling Center area, the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled west in the direction of Winchell’s.

The victim was not injured. Her purse contained $15 cash, a CNMI driver’s license, and a bicycle padlock.

Tarkong said the suspect was described as possibly a local male, with short hair, and wearing a black shirt, black jeans, and slippers.

“The Department of Public Safety and Crime Stoppers need your help. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for any information leading to an arrest,” said Tarkong.
