Students, teachers, and parents gathered at the Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School stage on the eve of Christmas Day, Dec. 24, to join the school in its first annual Christmas pageant, themed “Christmas in the past, present, and future.”

“This is our first year to perform and have a Christmas pageant,” said vice principal Annette Calvo. “We are going to continue this next school year.”

Calvo thanked the students, parents, and teachers for putting together the performances and supporting the school during the holiday season.

According to teacher Daisy Barcinas, who was one of the event coordinators, students submitted the idea for the theme and they “wanted to bring back the past culture and blend it in with the present and offer three different eras to make the event a success and enjoyable.”

Students from grades 7 to 12 brought to the school’s stage original choreographed performances, with a mix of the traditional Christmas songs like Baby It’s Cold Outside to modern songs like Melt the Snow.

“I feel much merrier and festive compared to before. I am enjoying this very much, ” said JROTC cadet and junior student Neri Jingco.

The event also featured special performances by the school’s JROTC Buck Battalion and the newly installed “RHI Glee Club.” Each class also showcased their handcrafter banners relating to the theme of the event.

“I am enjoying it because last year we did not have one like this,” said sophomore Meriden Hocog. “There are more performances this year and it is important to celebrate things like this to show how much spirit we have.”

This was the first Christmas pageant the school has had since its merger in 2011. Students, after the program, headed home for a two-week Christmas break with smiles on their faces and in high spirits.
